Company history

1940

1947 April The company founder Bunzo Tanuma accepted the offer from Keio University to run the university’s dorm cafeteria (Noborito, Kawasaki City)
1950 January New university and high school cafeterias were established along with the transfer of Keio to Hiyoshi.
1954 March Green House was founded as a private limited company whose name was selected from the suggestions by the Keio University students.
1959 February The company was reorganized into Green House Co., Ltd. with 2 million yen in capital in Hiyoshi, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama City.
1960 April Our first operation of foodservice in a factory started (Matsushita Communications Industrial Co., Ltd.).
1962 March A meal preparation center was established in Yokohama City.
1965 January The first Western-style cafeteria in the industry was introduced at Tokyo Toyopet Motor Sales Co.
1966 December Saboten, a restaurant specializing in deep-fried pork cutlets was opened in Shinjuku (the first outlet of the future chain)
1967 January Shahoden, a Chinese restaurant was opened in Shinjuku.
1968 April We signed the contract for the management of the company cafeteria in the Headquarters of Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.
1969 April The company-run culinary school system was introduced.
1970 January We signed the contract with the government office for the first time (Ministry of Education).
1972 July The restaurant division became an independent entity, Saboten Co., Ltd ( the company name was changed in February 1982 to Green House Foods).
1973 May We signed the contract with the Ministry of Finance.
1978 April We signed the contract with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
1982 May We became the first private contractor for the food preparation center (7,500 meals/day) for public schools in Tokyo (Kodaira City).
1988 December General Information Center (currently named as the Wellness Training Center) was completed in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

1990

1990 November We began over-the-counter trading for our stock (for the first time in the industry).
1991 November We concluded the technical partnership agreement for contract foodservices with LG Mart Co., Ltd. (currently OURHOME), a group company of the LG Group which is one of the four largest chaebols in South Korea.
1992 April

・We established an operation and management company for dormitories, health resorts, and training centers called GH Service (renamed in August of 2001 to Green House Service Co., Ltd.)

・Hokkaido Green House Co., Ltd. was established.

August Cini-Little Japan Inc. was established based on a license agreement with the U.S.-based Cini-Little International. Inc.
1993 June Chiaki Tanuma was appointed President & CEO following the founder Bunzo Tanuma’s appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors.
1994 October We established Senshu Co., Ltd., a company specializing in professional kitchen equipment, materials necessary for restaurants, and facility cleaning.
1996 August Our headquarters was relocated to Tokyo Opera City Tower in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
October Green Food Tech Co., Ltd. was established to efficiently run the distribution systems. Food Distribution Center was completed in Tsuzuki Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
1997 April Shahoden Co., Ltd. was established.
1998 October The first outlet of SHI-AN GYOZA, an original bite-size dumpling shop, was opened in Tokyo Opera City.
1999 January We established Global Resources Co., Ltd. specializing in foodservice staffing services.
April We established Green Healthcare Service Co., Ltd. to expand the foodservice business for hospitals and social welfare facilities.
June We took over the contract foodservice of Nissan Koe, a group company of Nissan Motor Group, and established GN Foodservice, Co., Ltd.
July Our food products distribution center and Wellness Training Center obtained the certification of ISO 14001, International Standard for Environmental Management System for the first time in industrial foodservice industry.
August We took over foodservices for Oki Life Service, a group company of Oki Electric Industry Group, and established GO Foodservice, Co., Ltd.

2000 February We established Kanto Green House Co., Ltd. from the sales department for the Kanto area.
March

・Green Hotel Management, Co., Ltd. was founded to manage hotels on a contractual basis.

・We established GF Foodservice Co., Ltd. along with the blanket contract for foodservice for Fuji Electric Co., Ltd..

・We established GY Foodservice Co., Ltd. to merge foodservice subsidiary companies serving Yasuda Trust & Banking Corporation (merged in April of 2002 with a local subsidiary)

April The company founder Bunzo Tanuma passed away on April 14.
2001 April Our food products distribution center obtained ISO 9001, International Standard for Quality Assurance.
May We took over contract foodservices business from Tokyo Group Meal Technologies Research Laboratories and established GT Foodservice (merged with Green House Co., Ltd. in December, 2001 transferred its operations to a local affiliate).
June GHF International Singapore Pte. Ltd. was founded in a partnership with LG Group in South Korea.
2002 February Hokkaido Green House Co., Ltd., a consolidated subsidiary, took over the foodservice business of Hokkaido Kosai Service, a member of Japan Railway Hokkaido Group.
April Food Service Kanagawa is acquired by Green House Co., Ltd.
June We established Food Safety Control Room in the food products distribution center.
July

・We concluded the blanket contract for foodservice for Mitsubishi Motor Corporation and established GD Foodservice Co., Ltd. to manage it.

・We took over the foodservice business, concession stands and outside sales department of Nikko, part of the Nissan Diesel Group ( they are operated by Kanto Green House Co., Ltd.)

September We concluded the license agreement with Horwath Asia Pacific.
November

・We began hotel management consulting services as Horwath Asia Pacific Japan.

・Expert Visual Training Center was opened.

2003 April We held the first Green House’s "Hospitality Day" as part of social contribution.
October All restaurants and shops of Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten by Green House Foods Co., Ltd. obtained ISO 14001.
2004 February We implemented the industry-first "food traceability system development and testing" in cooperation with Japan Contract Food Service Association.
March We took over the contract foodservice business of Daiei Kousan Co., Ltd., and transferred its operation to a local subsidiary.
April

・We took over the contract foodservice business and outside sales department of Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group and established Kobe Foods Co., Ltd.

・The 2nd Green House’s "Hospitality Day" was held.

・Construction of Green Plaza-Tanuma Bunzo Ceremonial was completed by the town of Shimogo-machi, Minami-aizu in Fukushima prefecture; the hometown of the founder, Bunzo Tanuma.

June We received the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister’s Award in the “consumer-friendly cuisine environment” category of the 12th Corporation Award for Excellence in Food Service by Agriculture, Forestry and fisheries Ministry.
December We launched the Taiwan’s first outlet of Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten operated by the local corporation.
2005 January We officially established Horwath Asia Pacific Japan to enter the hotel consulting business.
February We took over the foodservice business and outside sales business of Sakashoku, Co., Ltd. and transferred their operation to Kobe Foods Co., Ltd. in April, 2005.
April Green Food Tech Co., Ltd. was merged with Green Management Service Co., Ltd., which was renamed Green Food Management Systems, Co., Ltd.
May We took over the operation of five Italian and other Western-style restaurants from Romana Food Service Co., Ltd.
June We took over the foodservice business of Hakuyoken Co. Ltd. and began the operation as a new company called Wellness Hakuyoken.
July Kanto Green House Co., Ltd. was devided into Chuo Green House Co., Ltd. and Kanto Green House Co., Ltd..
October We took over the welfare service business and product sales business from SAXA Inc. and began the operation as a new company called GS Pro Assist.
November We concluded a joint venture agreement with DaChan Greatwall Group, a listed Taiwanese company.
December Takeover bid of Green House Co., Ltd by Green House Foods Co., Ltd. was announced.
2006 March The company was delisted from JASDAQ Securities Exchange.
August Alliance agreement was concluded with the European contract foodservice firms Albron and DSR
November Milled Rice Quality Control Room was established in the food distribution center to reinforce quality control of rice using data analyses and sensory inspections.
2007 April Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant’s first Japanese outlet was opened in Shin-Marunouch iBuilding.
July The joint venture agreement with Beijing Zhen Da Catering Co., Ltd. was signed to expand the contract foodservice business to China.
August The rice milling plant was renewed in the food distribution center for stable supply of rice whose quality was higher and safety and hygiene was ensured.
October ・The corporate mark was renewed to commemorate the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of the company.
・WIT Co., Ltd. was established, which developed a program titled "Asuken" to offer professional advice on nutritional management.
November G Y Food service Co., Ltd. was established by merging the department of foodservice and concession stands from Yamaha Group.
May Fazer Amica of Finland joined the alliance of Green House and European contract foodservice companies.
December The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten restaurant opened in BangKok, Thailand.
2009 January Academic-industrial alliance was signed with Kagawa Nutrition University.

2010 January Green Hospitality Food Service Co., Ltd. was established by merging operation of local subsidiaries in Kanto and Chubu area.
April The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten restaurant opened in Singapore.
July

・Tianjin GHHK CFS Co., Ltd. was established.

・Global Resources Co., Ltd and Senshu Co., Ltd integrated as a new company, Senshu Global Co., Ltd.

October The joint venture agreement with Miramar Group in Hong Kong was signed.
2011 January

・GH(WUXI) GFS Co., Ltd was established.

・GUANGZHOU GHCFS Co., Ltd was established.

May The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten restaurant opened in Hong Kong.
July Green Hospitality Food Management Co., Ltd was established by merging operation of local subsidiaries in East Japan and West Japan area.
2012 January

・DALIAN GH CFS Co., Ltd was established.

・The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten restaurant opened in Vancouver, Canada.

April Green House BTC opened in Atami, Shizuoka,
October Green’s Kitchen Studio opened at headquarters.
2013 March

・The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku saboten restaurant opened in Beijing, China.

・Green House Group acquired 100% share of Cany corporation (former subsidiary of Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd ).

May The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku Saboten restaurant opened in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, Philippines.
2014 February Green House Foods Co., Ltd.&CANY Co., Ltd. headquarters relocated to Tokyo Opera City Tower
April Hotel Grand Bach Kyoto Select opend.
July The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku saboten restaurant opened in Shanghai, China.
December Green Public Service Management Co., Ltd. was established.
2015 February The first Tonkatsu Shinjuku saboten restaurant opened in Macau, China
2017 April

・Green House 70th Anniversary Green House Foods 50th Anniversary

・G.H.V Co., Ltd. was established in Hanoi, Vietnam

・GHG Kitchen Academy opened in Shinjuku, Tokyo

2018 March Completed construction of GHG international training center in Karuizawa, Nagano
2019 March Green House Group acquired 100% share of SANWA Shokuhin Co., Ltd.
